In a recent address to a local business forum on the NSW South Coast, Juliane Wisata, co-founder of Rocky Trail Entertainment and Rocky Trail Destination, unveiled her profound vision for the Mogo Trails network. With a focus on CONNECTIONS, she emphasised the intricate web that ties nature, trails, people, riders, and the community together, ultimately weaving a tapestry that would drive economic prosperity.
Having organised MTB events in the region for years, the Wisatas, along with their team, identified Batemans Bay and Mogo as an ideal location for what Juliane referred to as a “Mountain Bike Trail Town.” This concept reflects a community’s commitment to supporting outdoor activities by providing essential services and amenities.
“A trail town typically refers to a community that is located along a popular MTB trail or hiking trail for that matter. These towns often cater to the needs of outdoor enthusiasts by providing services, amenities, and accommodations that support their activities. Martin and I saw the potential for Batemans Bay and Mogo to become a Trail Town years ago, it’s why we participated in the Mogo Trails Tender with Rocky Trail Destination in the first place.”

Juliane’s passion for the region was evident as she recounted the drive into Batemans Bay, instantly recognising its potential. The Mogo Trails project, a collaboration with key partner Marcelo from Next Level Mountain Bike, is not just about creating trails, she said; it was about building a community. The Batemans Bay MTB Club, with over 100 active members, is set to play a pivotal role in breathing life into these trails.
The Mogo Trails network, fully mobilised with 10 excavators and 25 crew members, is intended not just as another trail network, but intended to create emotional connections too. Juliane envisions not only vibrant riding communities but a network deeply ingrained in the DNA of the region, shaping its identity for years to come. Wisata also credited the successful establishment of the Narooma MTB Trails further South within the Eurobodalla Shire region, which will further enrich the riding and racing offering.
Juliane’s speech echoed the mission of Rocky Trail Destination – to build a network that connects with the local community in every possible way. It’s about creating special experiences that cater to the needs and goals of riders while fostering economic growth for local businesses. The Mogo Trails, designed with this ethos, will be a playground for riders of all levels, attracting not just visiting riders but becoming an integral part of the local community.
“We worked on a design that encourages social interaction is a key element in modern mountain bike centres. The network design will allow riders in a group to separate, take different skill level trails and then re-join in an easy, intuitive way. The network will cater for experienced riders and national or international events, but also welcome beginners to help create the next generation of riders.”

The journey, the experience, and progression are paramount in the Mogo Trails design. Throughout the detailed design phase, Juliane and her team delved into consumer behavior, understanding the motivations and goals of riders. At the core of their work for the Mogo Trails establishment is to provide those unique experiences that make a destination not just memorable but deeply integrated into the lifestyle of riders and locals alike.
With the Rocky Trail Destination Team at the helm, the Mogo Trails project is set to transform the region. It’s not just about boosting visitation but also empowering locals to explore and engage with the network. The opportunities are vast, from health and leisure benefits to job creation and community development.
“The Mogo Trails will be a network that provides the widest range of trail styles for local riders and to attract all skill level visitors to the town and facilitate the staging of events. All trails create connection to the Mogo and Batehaven town centers for access to services, hospitality, accommodation, experience providers and shuttles.”

As Juliane articulately puts it, “With Rocky Trail, we’re here to make sure to launch a network that the local business community can CONNECT with, benefit from, and that the journey is sustainable, and that the network will remain ever-evolving from here.”
